red enchilada sauce recipe


easy homemade red enchilada sauce

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 oz — 1/2 a small can — tomato paste
  • 1 tsp taco seasoning or cumin
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt — or to taste
  • cayenne powder — to taste

In small saucepan — whisk together oil, flour, and chili powder. Heat over low heat until it starts to simmer.

Slowly whisk in water. Whisk in remaining ingredients. Bring to a simmer, whisking often. Continue to whisk and simmer until desired thickness.
