In storytelling, you want to draw the reader in. Tickle their senses. When you engage your character’s senses, you also engage those of your reader.
You could engage just one of the senses.
She saw a basketful of fresh strawberries on the counter, so she ate one.
You should engage multiple senses.
As she entered the kitchen the smell of strawberries tickled her nose drawing her to the basket of fresh picked berries on the counter. She sought out the reddest, plumpest one, plucked it from the pile, and bit into it. The sweet juices poured over her tongue. She closed her eyes and let out a quiet moan of pleasure.
Which did you find drew you in more?
